NOMINATIONS FOR THE VCU STUDENT NURSES’ ASSOCIATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS WILL OPEN AS OF Monday, March 14th, 2005.

ELECTION DAY IS MONDAY, APRIL 14TH @ 12NOON IN NEB 317.

ONE MUST BE A CURRENT NSNA MEMBER IN ORDER TO RUN FOR A POSITION OR TO VOTE IN THE ELECTION.  YOU MUST SHOW YOUR MEMBERSHIP CARD OR RECEIPT OF MEMBERSHIP ON ELECTION DAY. 

 

SEE BELOW FOR A LIST OF OPEN POSITIONS AND DESCRIPTIONS:

 

PRESIDENT 

1.          Serve as the principle officer of the association and preside at all meetings of the VCU SNA, the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee. 

2.          Appoint Committees and their Chairperson, subject to the approval of the Board of Directors, and make other appointments as necessary. 

3.           Be bonded and co–sign checks with the Treasurer for monetary disbursements. 

4.          Represent the VCU SNA in matters relating to the association and perform all other duties pertaining to the office. 

5.          Communicate with members of the Board of Directors on a routine basis. 

6.          Be responsible for seeing that all Class obligations and traditional Class functions are carried out.

7.          Serve on the Council on Student Affairs Committee. 

8.          Serve as an Ex–officio member of the Nursing Division of the MCV Alumni Association of VCU, along with the Senior Class Director.   This is a liaison role between nursing alumni and the nursing student body.

9.          Ensure that the Official Application for NSNA Constituency Status is submitted annually. 

10.       Have such other powers and perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Board of Directors.

FIRST VICE PRESIDENT

  1. Assume, in rank, the duties of the President in the absence or the disability of the President. 
  2. Accede to the office of the President in the event of a vacancy in the office. 
  3.  Perform all other duties as assigned by the President 
  4.  Be concerned with committee work and helps to arrange meetings.

SECOND VICE PRESIDENT:

  1. Be responsible for reviewing and recommending changes to the Bylaws. 
  2. Serve as a resource person regarding parliamentary procedures. 
  3. Accede to the office of the First Vice President in the event of vacancy in the office. 
  4. Perform all other duties as assigned by the President. 

SECRETARY

  1. Keep files and record minutes of all VCU SNA transactions.  Minutes shall be posted on the VCU SNA bulleting board and e–mail no later than one week following the meeting. 
  2. Maintain files, which include the names and addresses of all constituent members of the VCU SNA. 
  3. Conduct the general correspondence of the VCU SNA requested by the President or the Board of Directors. 
  4. Keep the points system.  The point system shall consist of the record of attendance and an awarding of points to each individual participating in VCU SNA activities.   The Board of Directors shall determine the number of points awarded for each activity.  The points system shall be used by the Board of Directors to award recognition to individual members.  Recognition may include full or partial funding of expenses related to NSNA and VNSA conventions. 
  5. Perform all other duties as assigned by the President. 

TREASURER

  1. Act as custodian of association funds. 
  2. Be bonded and co–sign checks with the President for monetary disbursements. 
  3. Keep accurate, current financial files, make regular reports to the VCU SNA and let any member of the VCU SNA see these upon request. 
  4. Have at all times knowledge of the status of the VCU SNA books and shall be accountable to the association for this information. 
  5. Prepare an estimated fiscal budget for presentation and the subsequent approval by the Board of Directors. 
  6.  Supply a copy of the fiscal budget to each member of the VCU SNA Board of Directors. 
  7. Serve as chairperson of the Finance Committee, when such a committee is established by the Board of Directors. 

HISTORIAN

  1. Be responsible for documenting Most Active Constituency (MAC) points accumulated by the VCU SNA and forwarding documentation to VNSA. 
  2. Have responsibility for arranging special programs for the VCU SNA. 
  3.  Perform all other duties as assigned by the President. 

NEWSLETTER EDITOR

  1. Be responsible for writing, editing, publishing and distributing the official publications of VCU SNA. 
  2. Encourage members to contribute articles to the Newsletter. 
  3. Publish four (4) publications per year with deadline date approved by the Board of Directors. 
  4. Offer ideas/ suggestions for new columns, article topics, etc. 
  5. Write editorials. 
  6.  Serve as chairperson of the Image of Nursing Committee, when such a committee is established by the Board of Directors. 
  7.  Perform all other duties as assigned by the President. 

LEGISLATIVE DIRECTOR 

1.           Keep the Board of Directors informed of current legislation pertinent to the health care field. 

2.           Evaluate effectiveness of legislation/ education activities of recent past (e.g., voter registration drives, the importance of political involvement for nurses, etc.). 

3.            Educates members on how to become politically active. 

4.           Plan educational activities related to legislative/ education. 

5.           Review all resolutions submitted to the Board of Directors. 

6.           Perform all other duties as assigned by the President. 

BREAKTHROUGH TO NURSING DIRECTOR

  1. Coordinates activities for general recruitment and retention. 
  2. Coordinate four (4) recruitment events per year (e.g., elementary school visits). 
  3. Perform all other duties as assigned by the President. 

MEMBER-AT-LARGE DIRECTOR

  1. Areas of responsibility are determined by the President, and may include legislation, community health, bylaws, students’ rights, education, membership promotion, convention and programs, or other special activities.  

PUBLIC RELATIONS DIRECTOR

  1. Create/ maintain the VCU SNA Webpage link. 
  2. Perform all other duties as assigned by the President.

 

FRESHMAN CLASS DIRECTOR

1.           Conduct monthly committee meetings.  Meetings during the summer months and final examination months are left up to the discretion of the President. 

2.           Coordinate one fundraising event per year. 

3.           Become a liaison between the Class, the VCU SNA Board of Directors and Faculty. 

4.           Serve on the Council on Student Affairs Committee. 

5.           This Director position is open to freshman nursing students only. 

6.           ALL FRESHMAN NURSING STUDENTS ARE AUTOMATICALLY ON THIS COMMITTEE. 

7.           Perform all other duties as assigned by the President.

SOPHOMORE CLASS DIRECTOR

  1. Conduct monthly committee meetings.  Meetings during the summer months and final examination months are left up to the discretion of the President. 
  2. Coordinate one fundraising event per year. 
  3. Become a liaison between the Class, the VCU SNA Board of Directors and Faculty. 
  4. This Director position is open to sophomore nursing students only. 
  5.  Serve on the Council on Student Affairs Committee. 
  6. ALL SOPHOMORE NURSING STUDENTS ARE AUTOMATICALLY ON THIS COMMITTEE. 
  7. Perform all other duties as assigned by the President.

JUNIOR CLASS DIRECTOR

  1. Conduct monthly committee meetings.  Meetings during the summer months and final examination months are left up to the discretion of the President. 
  2. Coordinate one fundraising event per year. 
  3. Plan an activity to honor the graduating seniors (i.e., Senior Send-Off party or breakfast) with the Senior Class Director and President. 
  4.  Become a liaison between the Class, the VCU SNA Board of Directors and Faculty. 
  5.  This Director position is open to junior nursing students only. 
  6. Serve on the Council on Student Affairs Committee. 
  7. ALL JUNIOR NURSING STUDENTS ARE AUTOMATICALLY ON THIS COMMITTEE. 
  8. Perform all other duties as assigned by the President.

SENIOR CLASS DIRECTOR

  1. Conduct monthly committee meetings.  Meetings during the summer months and final examination months are left up to the discretion of the President. 
  2. Coordinate one fundraising event per year. 
  3.  Function for preparation for gradation includes arrangements for announcement, pins, NCLEX (State Boards) review sessions, senior class pictures and Class gift.
  4. Coordinate Senior Takeoff.   The Senior Class members provide entertainment in the form of humorous skits, which are reminiscent of their experiences in the past three years of nursing school. 
  5.  Serve as an Ex–officio member of the Nursing Division of the MCV Alumni Association of VCU, along with the President.   This is a liaison role between nursing alumni and the nursing student body. 
  6.  Become a liaison between the Class, the VCU SNA Board of Directors and Faculty. 
  7. This Director position is open to senior nursing students only. 
  8.  Serve on the Council on Student Affairs Committee. 
  9. ALL SENIOR NURSING STUDENTS ARE AUTOMATICALLY ON THIS COMMITTEE. 
  10. Perform all other duties as assigned by the President 

RN-BSN DIRECTOR

1.         Conduct monthly committee meetings.  Meetings during the summer months and final examination months are left up to the discretion of the President. 

2.         Coordinate one fundraising event per year. 

3.         Become a liaison between the Class, the VCU SNA Board of Directors and Faculty. 

4.          Serve on the Council on Student Affairs Committee. 

5.         This Director position is open to RNBSN nursing students only. 

6.         ALL RN–BSN STUDENTS ARE AUTOMATICALLY ON THIS COMMITTEE. 

7.         Perform all other duties as assigned by the President.

ACCELERATED SECOND DEGREE (A2D) DIRECTOR

  1. Conduct monthly committee meetings.  Meetings during the summer months and final examination months are left up to the discretion of the President. 
  2. Coordinate one fundraising event per year. 
  3.  Become a liaison between the Class, the VCU SNA Board of Directors and Faculty. 
  4. This Director position is open to A2D nursing students only. 
  5.  Serve on the Council on Student Affairs Committee. 
  6.  ALL A2D NURSING STUDENTS ARE AUTOMATICALLY ON THIS COMMITTEE. 
  7.  Perform all other duties as assigned by the President.

GRADUATE DIRECTOR

  1. Conduct monthly committee meetings.  Meetings during the summer months and final examination months are left up to the discretion of the President. 
  2.  Coordinate one fundraising event per year. 
  3. Become a liaison between the Graduate Program, the VCU SNA Board of Directors and Faculty. 
  4. This Director position is open to graduate nursing students only. 
  5. Serve on the Council on Student Affairs Committee. 
  6. ALL GRADUATE NURSING STUDENTS ARE AUTOMATICALLY ON THIS COMMITTEE. 
  7. Perform all other duties as assigned by the President.   

MCV CAMPUS, STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION REPRESENTATIVE (SGA REP)

1.          The school shall elect one representative for every 40 nursing students. 

2.          The SGA goal is to the increase the interaction between the schools.

3.          Responsible for seeing that the concerns of the nursing student are addressed. 

4.          Attend a monthly SGA meeting. 

5.          Keep the School of Nursing informed of current ideas and proposal that are discussed at meetings. 

6.          Send the minutes of SGA meeting over the e–mail to the School of Nursing. 

7.          Serve on committees formed by the SGA. 

8.          Students serve a ONE–year term. 

MCV HONOR COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE

Composed of Two (2) Representatives for each level and program in the school (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, RN–BSN, A2D and generic graduate). 

1.           Responsible for attending all called Honor Council meetings.

2.            Other members of the class may be requested to sit on the jury. 

3.           Duties include, jurisdiction over the Honor Code for the Student Body on the MCV campus, of Virginia Commonwealth University. 

UNDERGRADUATE CURRICULUM AND EVALUATION REPRESENTATIVES

1.          1 Two students, one of which is an RN, are appointed to this committee. 

2.          This committee articulates undergraduate and graduate curricula, evaluates curriculum, philosophy, objectives, conceptual framework and recommends changes, explores innovative approaches to curricula design, evaluates and approves major changes in courses. 

3.          Act as a liaison between the student body and the Committee on curriculum matters; 

4.          Educate classmates in the ways to deal with curriculum–type problems, emphasizing that change may occur immediately, but may affect succeeding classes; 

5.          Refer legitimate course complaints to the committee after other channels have been utilized; 

6.          Educate classmates in the importance of effective input to faculty regarding courses and facilitate faculty–student communication. 

7.          Students serve for time of enrollment in the school.

YEARBOOK REPRESENTATIVE

 Open to a student from each level and program in the school (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, RN–BSN, A2D and generic graduate). 

1.             Takes photographs of respective Class members, which are suitable for publication in the MCV campus, Yearbook, the XRay. 

2.           Works closely with the Historian to produce the Most Active Constituency (MAC) book. 

3.           Students serve for time of enrollment in the school. 

ATHLETIC REPRESENTATIVE

1.           Open to a student from each level and program in the school (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, RN–BSN, A2D and generic graduates). 

2.           Acts as the spokesman for the Class on all rules and policies concerning the gym fees and sports programs on the MCV campus. 

3.           Must keep the Class informed on intramural sports and must register the teams or individual for the events. 

4.           Other duties include keeping the class informed on times of play and answering any question on MCV gym procedures. 

5.           Students serve for time of enrollment in the school.
