Temporary Accommodation

When you first arrive in Richmond, it might take some time to find an apartment, or get the possession after you have signed the lease. You may request the seniors for temporary accommodation for couple of days.

How to find temporary accommodation?

Send a mail on our VCU Desis Yahoo Group and give your details: when are you arriving, for how many days will you stay etc etc. Generally people do not mind letting newcomers stay at their place for a few days. Please do not try to arrange temporary accommodation at multiple places as other new students would also need a place to stay.

What to do when you stay with someone temporarily?

  • When you stay temporarily, try not to be a burden on your hosts. Offer your help in household activities.
  • You may not be expected to cook, but you can help in cleaning vessels and stuff
  • Find a proper place to stay as soon as possible. Other new-comers who come after can use the place.
  • If you are going to stay longer, offer to pay rent for the duration and share the groceries expense. Your hosts may not expect you to pay, but atleast ask them once.

Remember! your hosts are putting an extra effort to let you stay. Please be nice to them.
