Shopping: Cell Phone and Service

In last few years, some of the service providers in US have come up with service plans for students coming to US. You can choose from different plans to suit your needs. They also give you a cell phone for an extra charge.

When you come to US, and do not have a good credit history, you may not get a phone service immediately. So it might be a good idea if you want to be 'in touch' with friends and family as soon as you land there.

When you go shopping for one of these plans, check out for these things:

• Make sure it is a reputed service provider like Verizon, Cingular, AT&T and T-Mobile and provides service in Richmond area. Ask your seniors if you have doubts.
• Make sure the service plan you choose gives you same number of minutes as the service plans bought in US including 'night and weekend' minutes.
• Find out the duration of contract. When you sign up for the service, you will have to sign a contract for one or two years. In US, generally the duration of contract is two years.
