John was here on Feb. 12 with two lectures at 12pm and 5:30pm and Feb.
13 with one lecture at 10:30am.
John is a specialist in programming environments. He lives and works out
of New York City.
For his LCD screens, John disassembles iMAC computers and reassembles
them to fit his artwork.
This is one of John’s LCD panels entitled Complexity, 2000. The skyline
that can be seen on the upper left corner of the piece changes every time
the system is turned on.
These panels can last anywhere from five to fifteen years depending on
how often the system is used by its owner. The beauty of these pieces
is that they can literally last forever. If and when the system or monitor
crashes, the code written for the system can be taken and reapplied to
the most current hardware and started again. To learn more about these
LCD panels visit John's personal webpage above.
For an easy and fun tutorial on programming visit:

If you would like to experiment with programming and can not download
the software onto your computer, the software is available to you in the
Animation Lab at Franklin Terrace rm. 005.
