About Us

We are an organization dedicated to promoting philosophical thought and discussion on campus. We do this primarily by hosting guest speakers who present papers for our members. However, we also host fantastic social events such as picnics, parties, and movie nights. Our events are entirely free and open to the public - we do not charge dues or limit membership so as to ensure that our club is as open and accessible as possible.

Etiquette for our events is simple and casual. Despite the stereotypes, as good philosophers we are interested in cultivating insight and becoming more examined rather than merely seeming smart by using obese jargon or citing factoids. Because our objectives are intellectually mature, you don't have to be an expert or even a Philosophy major or minor to be welcome at our events. If you have a genuine interest in Philosophy, and if you will act respectfully towards those who have devoted themselves to it, then we would LOVE for you to attend our events!

If our club sounds like something that you might be interested in, then please get in the loop by joining our mailing list. To join simply send an e-mail to philclub@vcu.edu asking to be added! Being on our mailing list requires no commitment on your part, and by joining it you will receive current information about our speakers, electronic copies of speaker papers, and information about our more social or casual events such as our movie nights and picnics. Also, please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, suggestions, or comments.
