VCU started the second
game right where they left off, jumping out to a 5-0 2nd inning lead
over William & Mary. However, defensive errors, which had eluded the
Ram defense in game 1, game back like a plague in game 2. VCU
committed 7 errors, leading to 10 unearned runs, the only earned run
coming off of starting pitcher Luke Rhodes in the 3rd inning. Rhodes
went 4 innings, giving up just 3 hits and the one earned run.
The Tribe scraped back
from the 5-0 deficit to take the lead 9-5 in the bottom of the fourth.
They made it 10-5 in the 5th, before VCU made a 6th inning run,
plating 5 to even the score at 10. However, the lead off man for the
Tribe reached on error, and eventually came around to score on a
fielders choice to put the Rams down 11-10. Three fly-outs in the top
of the 7th finished the game for the Rams.
Brendan Sheehy took
the hard-luck loss, giving up two unearned runs in his two innings of
hitless work. Rhodes lead the offensive attack, going 2-for-3 with a
double and single, with a run and an RBI. |
