VCU captured its first
win in a big way, plating 10 in the top of the 5th inning to induce
the slaughter rule on the homestanding William & Mary Tribe.
Nick Norwood was the
winning pitcher for the Rams, going 3 innings, giving up just 1 run on
4 hits. He walked 1 and struck out 3. Stephen Blue came on in the 4th
inning with a 4-1 lead, and while giving up just 1 hit, control was an
issue, leading to 2 runs over his two innings of work. It was good
enough to pick up the save, however.
Defensively and
offensively, the Rams played their best game of the year. They
committed just one defensive error, a throwing error from the outfield
which allowed a baserunner to advance. At the plate, the Rams picked
up 14 hits. They were led by Brian Hutton, who went 3-for-3 with a
double, two singles, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored, as well as Jason
Thompson, who went 2-for-3 with a double and a two-run homerun. He
also walked, and scored 3 runs. |
