About APO:

The following areas are the very building blocks of Alpha Phi Omega (read on to learn more about the roles they play in Alpha Delta Iota!):

LEADERSHIP:

One of the Cardinal Principles of Alpha Phi Omega is Leadership. Realistically, leadership is a matter of development. Alpha Phi Omega develops leaders, and we are very proud of that. As we grow, we seek qualities of leadership, and throughout our lives, we pursue the development of those qualities and the development of other, "well-rounding," qualities. Through our leadership development program in Alpha Phi Omega, we are able to develop ourselves. And, as we aspire to greater things in life, we become aware of limiting factors - which we can't control, the external forces that shape our destiny until we control and develop what we have inside of us. We discover our own talents and strive to better our skills. We study, we learn, we practice.

There are many ways in which members of the fraternity develop and exercise leadership, including serving on the chapter's executive board, serving as a Pledge Class officer, chairing a service project, serving on a committee, or organizing a friendship activity. Even after graduation, members of Alpha Phi Omega gain leadership can experience either within the fraternity itself, by serving on a National Committee or Sectional/Regional Staff, or outside the fraternity in other positions of the community!

FRIENDSHIP:

Brotherhood is the spirit of friendship. It implies respect, honesty and dependability. It means that we overlook differences and emphasize similarities as we join together in unselfish service. It means listening to Brothers whose views on issues might differ from our own. It means working closely with people whom under other circumstances we might not choose as our friends.

At ADI, we do many things together as friends. Whether it is going to formal banquets in the spring, or our traditional feast at Friendly's Restaurant after Pledge Induction, hanging out together in the Commons between classes, playing football in the mud, or just hanging out chatting on AOL Instant Messenger, the bonds of friendship formed during our years here at VCU we will carry with us throughout our lives!

The Friendship Vice President this year is Jaeau Obcemea. If you have any ideas for friendship activities this semester, please contact him!

SERVICE:

Our Chapter service program provides many opportunities for the development of social awareness, friendships and leadership skills. Participation in our service program helps make Alpha Phi Omega the unique fraternal organization that it is, and also a lot more fun!

Through the years, ADI has participated in several service projects with many organizations, including sponsoring a successful Blood Drive on campus with Virginia Blood Services, assisting with outdoor projects with Camp Skyanchor near Hopewell, Va., working with the Robert E. Lee Council of the Boy Scouts of America at Camp Brady-Saunders, collecting food for the Central Virginia Food Bank at a Halloween Food Drive, playing volleyball with youth at Oak Ridge Correctional Facility, and helping the Omicron Phi Chapter at the nearby University of Richmond with their annual Teeter for Tots program.

You can email the Service Vice President, Tara Shea Franklin. If you have any ideas on service projects this semester, or are part of another organization looking to cosponsor an event, please let her know!
