Green Chemistry

What is Green Chemistry?

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency:

"Green chemistry, also known as sustainable chemistry, refers to environmentally friendly chemicals and processes that result in: reduced waste, eliminating costly end-of-the-pipe treatments; safer products; and reduced use of energy and resources—all improving the competitiveness of chemical manufacturers and their customers."

There are Twelve Principles of Green Chemistry

What are the VCU ACS Student Affiliates doing to promote Green Chemistry?

  • This semester we are putting up posters in campus chemistry labs reminding students not to dump chemical waste down the drain.
  • Our Chapter will be volunteering to help with the VA Science Museum's Earth Day activities. The theme is "Streaming Chemistry-What's on tap for 2008."
